new type of apothecary: the guidance of reasonable utilization of drugs

It is currently common that antibiotics are used in clinical treatment to prevent from infection after operation, but it is a big problem about the proper time to use them. Providing that there is no infection before operation, it will be better to use it 30-120 minutes before operation or just following the anaesthesia than to use it 3 hours before operation because this would help reduce the rate of diseases from medicine and prevent the appearance of the anti- medicine germ stub.

At the “Symposium on Development of Clinical Medicine,2006” hosted by Shanghai Medicine Association, co-sponsored by Pearl Oceans, on March 16, CAi Weimin, director of medicament department, Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, pointed out that at present the apothecaries are still just in charge of handing out drugs. It is urgent for them to be of guidance of reasonable usage of medicines. Compared with those in other countries, the quantity and quality of apothecaries in our country still lag behind. Recently, Ministry of Public Health opened the training base for clinical apothecaries to19 hospitals, 5 of which are from Shanghai, i.e. Ruijin, Zhongshan, Renji, Changhai and Xinhua.

ZHANG JIAN，director of the medicament department, Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, pointed out that strict application and reduction of medicine variety of medicines will reduce the rate of the bad reaction. According to an investigation, combining one to five drugs will lead to unfavorable reaction rate of 3.8%, six to fifteen 28%, over sixteen 84%. He appeals that pharmacists should supervise and control the misuse of drugs, less or over use of drugs, bad reaction and abuse of drugs. Doctors should discuss on the problems with the pharmacists and make changes in time. And any interventions should be recorded in the list of drugs used for the patient.

LV Qianzhou，director of medicament department, Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital, reported that if tradition transfusion lasts over 48 hours, there will 9% of the fluid be polluted. Safe transfusion should be paid more attention by pharmacists, including three key processes, i.e. medicine production, medicine combination, and transfusion.
